Meet the Ayr 2017 graduation prizewinners

We’ve been building up to our three graduation ceremonies by revealing the prizewinners ahead of each event.

The Kilmarnock and Kilwinning graduations have been and gone, so now attention turns to our Ayr graduation prizewinners! The Ayr ceremony takes place on 24th November at the Ayr Town Hall.

We continue our reveal with the Student of the Year for Arts and Fashion, HNC Photography student, Samantha McFadzean!SOY Samantha McFadzen_Instagram Post

As a full-time mum, I decided that it was time to do something for myself. I’d always had a passion for photography, and felt that going to college would help with my long-term goal of starting a business.

The course involved both practical and theoretical elements, which included both studio and outdoors.

I enjoyed learning about studio lighting and different ways to use the manual settings on my camera. I also really liked meeting like-minded people and making new friends.

I’ve gained important skills such as manual photography skills and ability to studio light appropriately. I’m certainly more confident in myself and my photographic style.

I can’t quite believe I’ve won this award. I worked hard and I feel very honoured to have been awarded Student of the Year.

The recognition has given me even more confidence in my work. It’ll be something nice to show clients too.

I’m enjoying my young family and also starting a family lifestyle photography business.

My family and I are looking to move to Australia where I hope to continue to grow this business.

I would absolutely recommend the College. The photography department is fantastic and the staff couldn’t do more for their students.
